The gallery axis appears to have been aligned on the midwinter sunrise, notice
how
straight the gallery is, the rising sun would have shone through both sets of
jamb stones
and illuminated the now vanished back stone of the rear chamber.
Note the sill stone positioned between the entrance portals.
